The William S. Broyles Funeral Chapel was established in June 1957 at the “upper end” of Peterstown. In 1961, William Broyles purchased the other funeral home in town owned by his cousin and moved into this home closer to the center of town. A few years later construction of a new funeral home began. In 1969 the dream of William and his wife, Virginia “Teenie” Broyles became a reality and a new funeral home was complete. With over 6,000 sq. ft., all on ground level, and a covered carport providing easy access in and out of the funeral home, William was well ahead of his time in planning such a convenient building for the public.

William Continued to provide caring and dedicated service for the next 24 years in his newly constructed facility. In 1985, Phillip L. Shrewsbury and his wife, Pamela A. Schlager Shrewsbury and their two children, Kelly and Amy made the move to Peterstown from Beckley, WV, so Phil could further his career in the profession. Working with William for the next six years, and in June of 1991, Phil’s dream became a reality. Phil and Pam was able to purchase the funeral home from William, renaming the funeral home, Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Inc. Phil, Pam, Kelly, Amy and by this time two new additions, Leslie and Phillip II., and the most dedicated employee a person could ask for, Barry Harper, truly made it a family business.

We are committed to the people we serve by creating a family atmosphere in the comfort of our facility, and the dedicated service we provide.

Our staff currently consists of myself, Phillip L. Shrewsbury, my wife, Pamela, our youngest daughter, Leslie, our son, Phillip L. II., Barry Harper and James "Richie" Holliday II.

Part time consists of Jerry Brown, Raymond McDaniel and when they can take time from their regular jobs as nurses, my two older daughters, Kelly and Amy.
